New neighbors and many familiar faces came to our Civic Assocation meeting on Wednesday, June 27th. Bill Schwab, pictured left, introduced two officers from the Arlington County police department. A robber was caught in a recent string of robberies in the North Arlington area. Much of what was stolen was recovered. The police also discussed what to do when salespeople solicit you at your home or on the phone. First of all, for folks who come to your door, a solicitor must have an Arlington County permit. Each year it is a different color, this year it is brown. Arlington has not issued any permits this year so no one should be soliciting our neighbors currently. For folks who telephone, simply ask for some background material to be sent to you. If the caller can't provide this background material, they probably are not legitimate.
Our President, Ron Cheich, then discussed our role as a delegate to the Civic Federation, which enables all of the civic associations to have four votes on issues surrounding taxes, parks, roads, etc. Burt Bostwick, our President Ex Officio and official raffle ticket seller, pictured right, updated the group on his positive progress to place interpretative signs at the Gulf Branch Nature Center using Arlington County block grants. (Read The Washington Post article on Gulf Branch.) Connie Ramirez, our Historian and Richard Samp, our Civic Federation Delegate and ice cream scooper, pictured left, discussed the new history marker that will be placed to remember the Saegmuller School. The meeting was then opened to hear what community members were thinking.
Meeting minutes are forthcoming.
